Overview
The Historic Preservation Commission:
- Drafts and recommends measures to implement the historic preservation plan, including an historic building plan and historic preservation ordinance, to the City Council; and
- Performs such other administrative and advisory functions as may from time to time be delegated to the Commission by ordinance or resolution.
Historic Preservation in Santa Cruz
As a result of the City’s Historic Preservation Plan, adopted in 1974 as an element of the General Plan, the Historic Preservation Commission and the Historic Preservation Ordinance were established to protect the City’s historic and architectural resources. Meetings
The Historic Preservation Commission meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesdays of each month in-person at the City Hall at Council Chambers located at 809 Center Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Meetings begin at 7:00 PM.

Members
The Commission consists of seven members appointed by the City Council. Members should have degrees or experience in architecture, history, archaeology, or planning.
