If you are reporting a non-emergency, you can use our online police reporting system in certain circumstances. (You can apply for bicycle registration here) Remember: Filing a false police report is a crime.

File a Report

When Calling Dispatch to Report a Crime

You will be asked many questions. Here are the general questions dispatch will ask you:

  • Where is the problem?
  • What is the problem?
  • Is it still happening, (in progress)?
  • How many people are involved?
  • Are there any weapons involved?
  • What do the people look like (sex, age, race, height, weight, clothing)?
  • Are there vehicles involved?
  • Can you describe the vehicles (year, make, model, color, license plate)?
  • Which way did they go?
  • What is your name, address and telephone number?

Do you want to give us a tip about a crime? You can anonymously call our phone line or submit online.

When to Call 911

If you have an emergency, call 911. Here are examples of when to call 911:

  • A serious and dangerous situation requiring immediate action by the Police, Fire and/or EMS.
  • Fear of imminent danger/threat of danger.
  • If you know or believe to know that a crime is in progress.

Requesting Non-Emergency Response

If you need a police officer to respond to a non-emergency, please call (831) 471-1131. Here are some examples of non-emergency situations:

  • Making a report for a crime that is not in progress. In this case either call (831) 471-1131 or submit online.
  • When no one is at risk of imminent danger/threat of harm. If there is, please call 911.
  • If you were a victim of fraud and know the suspect. If you do not know the suspect, please file the report online.
