Historic properties within the City of Santa Cruz are listed in the City's Historic Building Survey. The Historic Building Survey protects historic properties since it acts as a guide for City staff. For example, before a commercial or residential property can be demolished City staff must complete a review and determine whether the property is listed in the Historic Building Survey. Proposals that include significant alteration, demolition, or redevelopment of properties or structures that are over 50 years old and not listed in the City's Historic Building Survey are reviewed by City staff. The following policies outlines standards and resources on how to research such structures. These further the mission of the Historic Preservation Commission.
